The Healthy Homes Hub

The Collaborative designed the Healthy Homes Hub, a coordinated set of services to make homes in Pittsburg and Antioch healthier, safer, and better to live in. We’re now putting it into operation.

What we can do now: help households find free or low-cost home energy upgrades and bill reduction programs, connect residents to clean energy training and the building trades, and support local contractors moving from gas appliance work toward efficient electric technologies.

What we’re still seeking funding for: our own no-cost upgrade program  -heat pump water heaters, induction cooking, solar and battery where feasible, and the health and safety repairs some homes need first.

Why Care About Our Home Appliances

Pittsburg and Antioch have some of the highest rates of poor air quality in the State.  Sitting alongside Highway 4 and a corridor of heavy industry contributes to the problem. Most homes in both cities run on gas appliances that pollute indoor and outdoor air, leading to a range of health problems for residents. For example, in Pittsburg, asthma rates are higher than in 97% of California communities.

We started by listening

More than 500 residents told us what their homes need. High Utility bills were a top concern everywhere we asked. Health came a close second, and many people learned for the first time that the appliances in their kitchen affect the air they breathe, creating and worsening asthma problems.

Who we are

We are local organizations already working with families, children, seniors, and job seekers across East Contra Costa.

WHERE THINGS STAND: The Healthy Homes Hub is open. We can connect you with energy bill discounts, free home upgrade programs, and clean energy training available now. We’re still seeking funding for our own installation program for free heat pump water heaters, induction cooktops, solar and repairs.
